Meet the New Stella Barra Pizzeria & Wine Bar in Santa Monica
New menu, new look, a whole new Stella Barra! Santa Monica’s favorite neighborhood pizzeria is now Stella Barra Pizzeria & Wine Bar. The restaurant has new authentic Italian pastas and veggie antipasti, as well as an expanded wine list. Wine Director Bobby Joe Rinaldo curated a wine list with dozens of domestic and imported varietals that celebrate the diversity of Italian regions. But diehard Stella Barra fans need not worry: The artisanal pizzas they love are still there, just now with the addition of ultra-crispy thin Tavern Style pies. Let’s dig in!
The brainchild of Executive Chef Ben Goodnick and Chef / Partner Jeff Mahin, Stella Barra Pizzeria & Wine Bar utilizes fresh, local ingredients to create simply sophisticated dishes. (Even the tomatoes are canned locally in Central California!) Stars of the new menu include pastas like traditional Spaghetti Marinara or Rigatoni Bolognese. Each plate is made with imported Pasta Mancini pastas, made from wheat grown in the fields of Le Marche, Italy following a strict set of eco-friendly rules. And yes, gluten-free pastas are also available!
But, the cardinal rule: Never skip out on appetizers! Stella Barra’s robust antipasti lineup includes veggie dishes such as Spicy Roasted Cauliflower with lemon and wildflower honey, Crispy Artichokes in a bright lemon and herb aioli and Charred Broccolini with kale salsa verde and lemon zest. Try a few antipasti selections alongside a pour from one of Stella Barra’s new large-format bottles. Small plates and big wines make a fantastic pairing!
The Tavern Style Pizzas with a thin cracker crust and big bold flavors are an old school style that pay homage to Stella Barra’s Midwestern roots. They are offered in three varieties: Sausage & Peppers topped with heritage pork, Spicy Hobbs Pepperoni and Double Cheese. Pro Tip: Order one (or all three) of the new crust dips to finish the last bites of each slice. Options include: Warm Tomato Sauce, Garlic Butter and Truffle Gruyére Fonduta. All pizzas can be made gluten-free. However, keep in mind that they are made in an area that contains flour.
Now for the most important part, the wine! The new space boasts a full-service wine bar stocked with porron. A Spanish drinking tradition for centuries, this vessel aerates the wine and makes imbibing an interactive group activity. Take turns with the porron, passing it around the table for all to enjoy. Wines available by-the-porron rotate to highlight different countries and regions. Ask your server or bartender for the current selection!
Stella Barra Pizzeria & Wine Bar is open for weekday lunch 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM, and now through Saturday, February 29, 2020, guests can receive $50 off their group lunch order! Restrictions apply.
