It’s time to pop the cork, Chicago. Bar Ramone, Lettuce Entertain You’s very first wine bar is now open and we’re ready to sip some vino, pour some porróns (we’ll get into that later) and order up Spanish tapas all night long.

We know it’s always wine-o-clock, but before you grab a glass and come meet Ramone, here’s what you need to know.

Whether you’re a sommelier, or just learning the nuances of wine and differences in varietals, the wine program at Bar Ramone features a list designed to be both approachable and exciting to any kind of wine drinker.

Curated by Richard Hanauer (Food & Wine ‘Sommelier of the Year’), the selection spotlights small, sought-after producers like Clos Cibonne, Jean-Louis Chave, and Jacques Selosse as well as selections from regions that Richard love like Burgundy, Piedmont and Rhône.

Looking to have (even more) fun while sipping your wine? Grab some pals and a Spanish Porrón filled with Txakoli — a Basque’s iconic light, dry wine — to see who can do the longest and furthest pour.

Pro tip: Need an icebreaker for your first date? Order a Porrón – just don’t spill. Spill your guts out, not the porrón!

Tapas Time

If you’re looking to pair your vino with some bites, Bar Ramone is all about small plates with big taste. The menu, created by Chef’s Hisanobu Osaka, has the heart and soul of Spanish tapas with modern influences. Start with some house-baked Pan Con Tomate, a Spanish-style tomato bread with anchovies and manchego or Jamon Serrano, or order up some Pintxos like Mushrooms with garlic butter or Chicken Liver with onion jam.

By now you’re likely a glass in and ready for the next course.

Check out classics like Spicy Padron Peppers & Bonito and Marinated Goat Cheese, or for a more modern approach, enjoy favorites like Tomato, Yuzu and Basil, Bloody Mary Shrimp, Japanese Ice Fish and Patatas Bravas XL Fries with smoked paprika aioli. We repeat: XL FRIES WITH PAPRIKA AIOLI.

Ah, we thought you’d never ask! Maybe he is one of our bartenders, maybe he’s Richard’s long-lost cousin. Or maybe it’s just a name that we love, and we hope you will too. We might tell you the story one day, but until then, we’ll enjoy more wine and another order of XL Fries.
