Welcome back to “You’ve Gotta Try,” a series that chronicles some of our favorite eats around our restaurants, that you’ve, well, gotta try! Are you curious to know where Lettuce Entertain You founder Rich Melman is eating now? Here’s a hint: Some of the freshest oysters in Chicago. Another hint: It’s even got oyster in the name. It’s Oyster Bah, offering some of the freshest seafood in Chicago’s Lincoln Park, along with a brand spankin’ new menu that we’re really excited about. So much so that the next iteration of Rich’s “You’ve Gotta Try,” brings us to the Bah.
If you’ve never been to Oyster Bah, one thing you should know: This seafood spot is part of the Shaw’s Crab House family which means they source the freshest oysters, use sustainable seafood, and cook with the best ingredients there are.
Now onto Rich’s recommendations:
“I go to Oyster Bah for the oysters. I don’t know if anyone in the city goes through more oysters than the Shaw’s group, so you’re assured that they’re really fresh.”
Never had an Oyster before? Then you could be part of the #FirstOysterClub. How does it work? Try your first oyster at Oyster Bah and you’ll join a group of elite oyster first timers to get your name on the wall at the restaurant.
“I tend to go heavy on the appetizers every time I dine here. You really could make a meal of them.”
A few favorites include:
Sizzling Garlic Shrimp with garlic butter, panko breadcrumbs, grilled ciabatta bread. (Insider tip: this signature dish is also available during Happy Hour!)
“One of the newer items that’s great is the Ginger Sesame Mussels served cold on the half shell which comes ten pieces to an order, topped with a ginger sesame sauce, a red fresno chile and lime.”
“I love the Bang Bang Shrimp Tempura with celery and cabbage salad, spicy tobanjan sauce.”
“The Clam Chowder made classic New England Style is the best clam chowder I’ve had in a really long time.”
New Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail with atomic cocktail sauce.
“I know everyone has a shrimp cocktail on their menu, but this one is really special. Oyster Bah uses jumbo shrimp and the cocktail sauce is terrific.”
The Original Seafood roll with Maine Lobster, King Crab, Shrimp, celery and mayo.
“This is the restaurant’s take on a lobster roll. We added all different types of seafood here and the sandwich is really meaty and delicious.”
“The Grilled Fish of the Day is the chef’s choice of fish that changes each day. It’s a market catch and for those looking for a lighter, healthier option, this is it.”
“End your meal with a piece of Coconut Cake. You can’t go wrong with this cake.”
