It’s almost Valentine’s Day and love is in the air. Believe it or not it’s a tale as old as time (or at least as old as Lettuce Entertain You) that people fall in love at Lettuce restaurants. So let us tell you a few love stories of couples who began their relationships with Lettuce and tied the knot at a Lettuce restaurant with the help of Lettuce Parties.

Nicole & James – Nacional 27

Nacional Weddings

When did you meet your husband and when did you get married?
James and I met on the Saturday before Halloween 2011. I was dressed as a Ninja turtle and he wasn’t dressed up, although I thought he was one of the choir guys from Glee with his preppy clothing. He said he fell for me since I was his favorite turtle, Raphael. We got married at Nacional 27 on September 6, 2015.

Did you go to any Lettuce restaurants while dating?
Yes, I have been a LEYE restaurant goer since before I can remember and James was not nearly as much of a foodie as I was so I took it on as a challenge to take him to every Lettuce restaurant, we still have a couple left on that list but our favorites are Nacional 27WildfireSummer House Santa MonicaCafe Ba-Ba-Reeba! and RPM Italian.

Most memorable Lettuce dining experience together?
I would have to say Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba! this past summer, my husband sometimes gets spontaneous at the most wonderful times, I had a long tough day at work and he could tell it in my voice so he met me outside my office to take me home but instead we went to Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba! for some sangria and dinner, it was something so simple but it really turned my day around, just the ambience when you walk into Ba-Ba-Reeba won’t allow you to be in a bad mood and neither will the sangria. We went for a long walk after dinner and I will always remember that day that I fell in love with my husband just a bit more.

Why did you select Nacional 27 wedding venue?
We knew that we wanted to have a venue that was less like a banquet and more an elegant but fun party. We already loved the food at Nacional and both of us being of Latin descent thought it would be the perfect place to celebrate our marriage. Parking downtown was huge, too.

What made Nacional 27 special?
Above anything else, what I really liked not just with Nacional, but with Lettuce in general, is that you can be as creative as you want; the team really goes above and beyond to make sure that my wedding vision came to life, which is tough because I am a wedding planner as well as corporate event planner. Not only did the folks at Nacional make my wishes come true, they also lent advice on things that I didn’t even consider, and that is tough, ask my husband, I know it all.  We went with a food station set up so people could eat when they were hungry and dance when they weren’t. The flow of the venue was different because it had two levels but everyone was still close which made it feel intimate even for a 200 person wedding. Also, the bar area was perfect for a busy cocktail hour, guests loved the accessibility.

What was one thing that stood out about working with the Parties team?
Honestly, as a wedding planner you don’t always deal with the same people while corresponding with a venue but with Lettuce we had one main go-to person, Allison Gallese, and she was wonderful. Allison never said no, she just always said we will make it happen and as a bride or a planner that is what you are looking for. Gianna Bostedt was also a great help on site the day of, you could tell that the team at LEYE communicated very well and I always felt like I was in good hands which led to a completely stress-free wedding day.

What was the best part about your wedding?
When the dance floor officially opened, I stood up on the ledge near our head table and just took it all in, I saw the smiles on the faces of my guests both seated and dancing and everyone was truly enjoying themselves, every single one and that in itself was the greatest feeling of all, well that and being married to my best friend.

Rosemary and Darryl – Osteria via Stato

Rose and Darryl

When did you meet your husband and when did you get married?
We met working at Shaw’s Crab House Chicago. Darryl was a number four manager and I was an assistant catering manager.

Did you go to any Lettuce restaurants while dating?
All the time! I joke that our first 100 dates were at Shaw’s Chicago because we had dinner together there almost every night at the end of our shift. We have marked just about every special occasion/ event at a Lettuce restaurant! Our first meal with our parents all together was at Mon Ami Gabi, my bridal shower was at Wildfire and our rehearsal dinner was at Shaw’s Chicago.

What has been your favorite Lettuce dining experience together?
About a million to choose from here but on our two year anniversary, we splurged on a dinner at L20. I was blown away by the attention to detail in the food but also the playfulness of the beverage pairing. I specifically remember a play on a crab cake dish that Richard Hanauer (now beverage director at RPM Steak) paired with an Old Style Beer. Darryl also took me to Everest for my birthday about a year after we started dating which inspired a trip to Alsace a few years later.

Why did you select your specific wedding venue?
Pizzeria via Stato has always been one of our favorite restaurants in the city. Osteria is also famous for their private dining and special events. The ability to have a sophisticated pizza party for our wedding was too fun to resist! We looked at several non-restaurant venues around the city but really didn’t wanted to compromise on the quality of the food. Our priorities were amazing food, genuine hospitality and a city location and Osteria went above and beyond on all fronts.

Rose and Darryl

What made a Lettuce venue so special vs other venues?
Working with Lettuce took all the work out of the planning. The team at Osteria are such pros. We didn’t have to worry about tables, chairs, silverware and so many of the logistical problems that come up when working at a venue with outside catering. The service was also terrific, we love going back to visit Osteria and seeing the service and management team that took care of us on our wedding day.

What was the best part about your wedding?
Impossible to choose but, everyone that attended our wedding is still raving about the food at Osteria. By the time we got to our wedding cake, I was too full to eat more than a bite! (Of course I saved room for our midnight snack of pizza and M Burger cheeseburgers). Highlight of my night may have been walking out of Osteria down State Street with several pizza boxes in hand. I was literally handing out pizzas to random Chicagoans.

What is something you wish you knew if you had to do it over?
I honestly wouldn’t change a thing. We had an amazing team of vendors that we were working with (many referred by Allison at Osteria). We let the professionals handle the details so we could enjoy the day. Our only regret is that we didn’t invite more people to join in on the party.

Aaron and Rickey – Big Bowl

Aaron and Rickey

When did you meet your husband and when did you get married?
We met in July, 2007 and started dating February, 2009. We got married in January, 2014.

Did you go to any Lettuce restaurants while dating?
We did! We frequented Big BowlOsteria via StatoCafe Ba-Ba-Reeba! and Hub 51 most often.

What has been your favorite Lettuce dining experience together?
Every time we go to Las Vegas, we sit on the Mon Ami Gabi patio for hours. The food and drinks are amazing and the people watching is awesome. It’s also great to have a front row seat to the Bellagio Fountain.

Why did you select your specific wedding venue?
We have been to over 50 weddings together and have seen it all, but we selected Big Bowl because we wanted something different. We did not want our guests to have a dry piece of beef or chicken to choose from. As a couple, we are very unique and we wanted our guests to walk away having experienced a unique reception. We go there for dinner at least once a week and love the food.

Aaron and Rickey

What made a Lettuce venue so special vs other venues?
Chrissy Dwyer (now at The Ivy Room) made the planning process so easy. We let her know what we wanted and she told us not to worry, it would be done. She and her team went above and beyond to ensure that our guests were well taken care of. We were blown away by her creativity. We could have never imagined what she was able to put together for us. We also loved the idea family-style dinner service.

What was the best part about your wedding?
We had a full, three-day wedding weekend. That Friday night, our families met for the first time, over dinner at Bub City Chicago. On Saturday night, we hosted a cocktail reception for all guests at Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab Chicago. Followed by a “bachelor party” at Three Dots and a Dash. Hosting multiple events gave us time to spend with each and every guest.

At the end of the wedding reception at Big Bowl, we did not have to worry about staying to clean up anything or worry about rental return. We just took our gifts home and the rest was taken care of by Chrissy & her team.

What is something you wish you knew if you had to do it over?
We would have made the reception last for at least another hour!

If you’re planning your special day or any other special event, Lettuce Parties is here to make the process as fun and easy as possible.
