Nacional 27 opened in September 1998 and is one of Chicago’s first Latin-inspired restaurants and this month, we are excited to celebrate 20 years of a restaurant that has seen its changes over time, but has always offered a fun and lively vibe to our guests.
Did you know that when Nacional 27 first opened its doors in 1998 it was a fine dining establishment complete with white tablecloth service? Ten years later in 2008, inspired by the team’s travels, the restaurant went in new direction with the goal of showcasing flavors of the 27 Central and South American countries, plus adding a lively, hip taco menu served exclusively in the bar.
Today, we invite you to celebrate the flavors and cooking styles from Latin America. From Thursday, September 27 through Saturday, September 29, join us in celebrating the restaurant’s anniversary from specials including a throwback menu from 1998 (throwback pricing too!) to a Mariachi brunch, dance party and much more. Here’s how we’re celebrating Chicago’s longest standing Latin salsa club.
Let’s celebrate all weekend long with specials and dance parties:
Thursday, September 27:
Check out the Throwback menu featuring Nacional 27’s original signature dishes including Baja Grouper Huachinango, Heart of Palm Salad and other favorites. The dishes aren’t the only thing we’re throwing back, we will also be bringing back prices from 1998 on select menu items!
Friday, September 28:
We’re throwing a dance party complete with bottle specials and hot Latin beats. Fashion Tip: “Wear Your Miami Whites.”
Saturday, September 29:
Mariachi Brunch: Start with $20 Sangria pitchers and brunch complete with a Mariachi band.

Whether you’re a Nacional 27 regular or first time guest, we want to take a moment to celebrate a few of our signatures that we are proud of from our steaks and fresh ceviches and of course, sangria!
A staple throughout all Latin countries and often served on the beach with a cold beer. Ceviche simply means fish or seafood cooked in acid (usually citrus juice). Chef Tim uses an array of different seafoods, arranged with bright fruits, vegetables and a bit of heat!
Focusing on Latin flavors from Peru, Mexico, Cuba and Argentina, Nacional 27’s steak menu features six different steak preparations with indigenous ingredients to these respective countries. A few of our favorites: Cuban Skirt Steak with Lime-Mojo made with garlic, olive oil, lime juice and spices, this classic salsa packs a floral and fruity punch, Classic Mole Negro Bone-in Ribeye is an old word favorite that contains chilis, nuts, pumpkin seeds and cocoa, simmered to perfection and the Argentinian-crusted Filet Medallions a juicy filet medallions with chimichurri which consists of chopped parsley, garlic, olive oil and vinegar. Check out the full steak menu here.
Sangria, with origins in Spain, goes Peruvian at Nacional 27 with the addition of Pisco. Offering both red and white sangria, the pisco-laden drink has brandy and fresh fruit juices to brighten it up.
Cheers to our loyal guests for allowing the restaurant to reach this monumental milestone! We can’t wait to celebrate with you this month.
