Wow Bao is introducing its first ever gluten free bao on May 1, just in time for Celiac Awareness Month (May). The team at Wow Bao has been hard at work testing recipes to perfect a gluten free bao option and the recipe substitutes the wheat-based dough for a tapioca and rice flour alternative.
The new gluten free bao is filled with Chicken Teriyaki, prepared with tamari in place of soy sauce and is sold in packs of two for $6.29 (plus tax).
Starting May 1, the Gluten Free Chicken Teriyaki Bao will be available at all Chicagoland Wow Bao locations.
Although Wow Bao is not an entirely gluten free environment, Wow Bao’s menu does include an array of other gluten free menu items including: the Teriyaki Chicken Bowl, which can be ordered with Jasmine White Rice, Enlightened Rice (a multi-grain blend of brown, white, red and black rices with Chinese goji berries) or Cauliflower Rice, the Thai Herb Bone Broth and Homemade Ginger Ale. At locations serving breakfast, the Bacon, Egg & Cheddar Rice Bowl, Spinach, Egg & Mushroom Rice Bowl and “World’s Best” Oatmeal are also gluten free.
