WASHINGTON, D.C. – JUNE 2016 – RPM Italian, the modern Italian restaurant from Lettuce Entertain You restaurateurs R.J., Jerrod and Molly Melman, chef/partner Doug Psaltis, and celebrity couple Giuliana and Bill Rancic, will open Wednesday, June 29th at 601 Massachusetts Avenue NW. The menu will feature signature RPM dishes and handmade pastas from the Chicago flagship, alongside seasonal specials unique to the D.C. location, like Veal Tartare with black truffle and Pecorino Sardo and a Live Sea Scallop Crudo with fennel and agrumi picante.
“RPM Italian really focuses on seasonal ingredients, fresh pastas our team makes in-house every day, pristine seafood, prime steaks and, of course, the Italian classics,” says managing partner, R.J. Melman. “We’re excited to bring all that and more to the nation’s capital.”
The menu is a collaboration between chef/partner Doug Psaltis and executive chef Gabe Thompson – formerly of NYC-based restaurants L’Artusi, dell’anima and Anfora. Thompson, who recently relocated to Washington, D.C. with his wife and children, has been cooking modern Italian food for the majority of his culinary career.
“I’ve been a fan of Gabe since I first ate his food in New York City. I couldn’t be more happy and excited to work with him, and allow his experiences and style to shape what RPM Italian DC will be,” says chef/partner Doug Psaltis.
Award-winning mixologist Julian Cox will oversee the RPM cocktail program. Previously named one of the 10 most influential bartenders in the past 10 years by Food & Wine magazine, his cocktail program will reflect his philosophy of blending classic old-style bartending with modern techniques. The wine program, curated by RPM wine director Richard Hanauer, will feature more than 100 American and Italian vintners. By-the-glass offerings include vintages currently at their peak, which gives diners the rare opportunity to sample exclusive wines without the commitment of the full bottle.
The 11,000 square foot restaurant will seat nearly 350 guests throughout the main dining room, bar area, private dining spaces and two outdoor patios. RPM Italian will open with dinner service seven days per week, with weekday lunch service to later follow.
