The Violet Hour brought on Jeremy Nelson (Dovetail) as chef de cuisine. The Hampton Social expands to Skokie February 11. Miami’s Barton G. The Restaurant arrives in River North February 15. Paul Virant (Vie) focuses on Japanese okonomiyaki for an upcoming West Loop venture called Gaijin. Jason Vincent, Ben Lustbader and Josh Perlman (all Giant) are working on a new concept, Chef’s Special Cocktail Bar, in Bucktown, complete with a menu of Chinese-American dishes. Black Dog Gelato is getting a new shop in the West Loop. Longstanding Artists Cafe closed in the Loop. HopCat closed in Lincoln Park. Michael Lachowicz closes Restaurant Michael March 3 and puts George Trois on hiatus until May 2. In Columbus, Ohio, Cameron Mitchell Restaurants signed Borgata Pizza Cafe and Darista as its first vendors for forthcoming Budd Dairy Food Hall. In Detroit, Matt Knio baked up a French patisserie downtown, Cannelle by Matt Knio. The Afro-Caribbean Yum Village food truck plants a restaurant in New Center this spring. Hot dog legend George Keros (Lafayette Coney Island) has passed away at 87.
