The Labor Day weekend just ended, but the fall season has wasted no time getting started.

Among the musical highlights of this weekend:

John Mahady. The veteran Chicago cabaret singer (and beloved waiter at Mon Ami Gabi in Lincoln Park) will celebrate his 30th anniversary of “slinging hash,” as he puts it, in the best way possible: making music. He’ll sing tunes identified with Tony Bennett, Bobby Darin, Sammy Davis Jr. and other classic swingers, with brilliant pianist Beckie Menzie at his side. 7:30 p.m. Friday at Heller Auditorium of Francis W. Parker School, 330 W. Webster Ave.; $30; 773-415-6393.
