Celebrate the Year of the Ox at Big Bowl

Ensure a prosperous 2009 by heading to Big Bowl for the annual Chinese New Year Celebration from January 23 – 26. Unless otherwise noted, the lucky lineup to honor the Year of the Ox is scheduled for all Big Bowl locations.

Symbolic Specials
A menu of good luck specials will be served from Thursday, January 22 through Monday, January 26 featuring oxtail in soup, potstickers, noodles and more. Guests will also receive complimentary oranges. The color symbolizes gold while the word ‘orange’ in Chinese sounds like wealth.

Make Way for Dumplings

A free cooking class on making dumplings will be offered on Saturday, January 24, 10 a.m., at the 6 E. Cedar St. location only. All participants will receive a complimentary bag of Big Bowl’s chicken dumplings/pot stickers and a gift certificate. Dumplings represent wealth and prosperity. Good Luck Gamble

Gambling is symbolic of fortune for the New Year. On Friday, January 23, each table can take a chance by rolling the dice (during dinner only). Whatever number comes up will be deducted in dollars from the check.

Happy Birthday to Me

Part of Chinese New Year calls for acknowledging “everybody’s birthday,” a time when birth and renewal are celebrated. In such spirit, Big Bowl on Sunday, January 25 is giving away gifts to all guests, such as complimentary appetizer cards, a copy of The Big Bowl Cookbook by Bruce Cost and a $100 retail gift card (buying new things such as clothes is a New Year tradition to symbolize new beginnings). All children will be given a customary hóng bāo, small red envelops containing a crisp dollar bill for good luck.
