Shaw’s Crab House is hosting its 23rd Annual Royster with the Oyster Festival this fall. During the second week of October, stop by either of Shaw’s locations—in Chicago or Schaumburg—to enjoy nightly oyster specials and to check out the Oyster Slurping Contest, starting at 6:00 p.m. each night in the Oyster Bar at both locations. The festival culminates at the end of the week on Friday, October 14, 2011, with the famous Tent Party in Chicago (attended by more than 5,000 happy oyster lovers in 2010) from 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. outside of Shaw’s Chicago location on Hubbard Street.
It all kicks-off on Monday, October 10, 2011—Shaw’s Crab House loyal customers and new Shaw’s diners alike will enjoy a landmark Oyster Deal. Dig in on the Monday celebration at both locations: 50¢ raw Oysters on the half shell. This by-the-piece oyster special will take place in the Oyster Bar from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Shaw’s Schaumburg location will continue the 50¢ Oyster Deal the entire week—from October 10-14.
For the remainder of Oysterfest Week at Shaw’s Crab House, diners can order six fresh, cold water oysters on the half-shell for $7/half dozen or $14/dozen. Shaw’s will feature hot oyster dishes as well, including Fried Oysters and Oysters Rockefeller.
The nightly Slurp-Off during Oysterfest week invites participants to slurp down a dozen oysters as fast as they can, hands-free, with the goal to advance to Friday’s Grand Slurp-Off at the Tent Party for their chance to win a grand prize of $1,000. The Grand Slurp-Off will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 14, 2011 in the Tent. The Slurp-Off Oysters are being provided by Pangea Oyster Company.
This year’s Oyster Hall of Fame inductee is Alex Mallidis, Founder of Captain Alex Seafood. On Thursday, October 13, 2011, Shaw’s will host a special Oyster Hall of Fame Dinner to honor him with an oyster reception and specially prepared multi-course meal featuring the seafood he supplies Shaw’s. The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. at Shaw’s Chicago location, priced at $79 per person. For all American Express Zinc card holders there will be a 20% discount on the dinner and $5 free for every $20 of Oyster Bucks purchased at the Tent Party. The famous Tent Party takes place on Friday, October 14th from 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in front of Shaw’s on Hubbard Street. This annual Oyster Festival ($10 entry donation, with a portion going to the Shedd Aquarium) offers attendees the chance to enjoy the freshest oysters on the half shell provided by Maison Beau Soleil and boat-loads of delicious food provided by Shaw’s Crab House, ice cold beer and wine, and live music. The big tent party will be emceed by 93XRT celebrity DJ Lin Brehmer. Some of Chicago’s favorite bands will be featured:
