Water Tower Food Court Slated for Major Expansion

The acclaimed Foodlife food court at Water Tower Place is poised for its biggest-ever expansion, with a new market that’s to feature wine and sushi bars and a phone-booth sized room of chocolates, while an M Burger sandwich shop replaces the old market.

Chicago-based restaurant company Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises Inc., which launched Foodlife in 1994, is calling the place Foodease Market, a play on “foodies,” the slang term for food aficionados, and the concept’s mantra: “restaurant-quality food prepared to go.”

Foodease, which will feature a bigger assortment of salads, sandwiches and ready-made deli products, is slated to open early fall in a space across the hall from Foodlife’s main entrance. At 4,500 square feet, the space will include seating for about 50 people and be almost three times bigger than Foodlife’s current market.

“You are going to be wowed when you walk through the door,” says Marc Jacobs, an executive vice-president and partner with Lettuce who’s heading the development of Foodease, which will have offerings for breakfast, lunch and dinner. “The food’s going to sell itself. The food is on show; it’s the display.”
