R.J. Melman is managing partner of HUB 51, SUB 51, Studio Paris, RPM Italian, Bub City, Three Dots and a Dash, Ramen-san, RPM Steak, Bub City & Joe’s Live Rosemont, Stella Barra Pizzeria, Summer House Santa Monica, M Street Kitchen and il Porcellino.
In 2001, R.J. graduated from the University of Kansas. Over the past decade, he has played many roles within LEYE and has also served as a consultant on restaurant projects outside of the company. During his tenure, he has opened more than 13 concepts within LEYE—his first being HUB 51 and SUB 51 in June 2008. R.J. also spearheads the music programs at his nightclubs, which play host to some of the biggest names in music.
Already in 2016, R.J. and his partners have had several projects in the works, including the opening of Bub City and Joe’s Live—a restaurant and music-and-events space—in February in Rosemont, Illinois. Shortly after in March, they opened Italian-American comfort food spot, il Porcellino, in River North. Then in June, 2016, R.J. and his partners opened the second location of RPM Italian in Washington, D.C.
Residing in Chicago, R.J. is active within the Chicago philanthropic and business community and serves on a number of boards and committees including the national board for The Kitchen Community and Board of Directors for Del Taco.
