Jeff Mahin is a Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises Partner and Executive Chef Partner of Stella Barra Pizzeria, M Street Kitchen in Santa Monica, CA, as well as Do-Rite Donuts, a specialty donut shop located in the theatre district of downtown Chicago and Summer House Santa Monica. Originally born and raised in the Northern California Bay area, he is the eldest son of a scientist and engineer. While cooking is his passion he has always been drawn to science and math. Throughout his culinary career, Mahin has always taken a scientific approach to food.
Mahin began working in kitchens at age 13. During his high school years, he began to see his future take shape while working at a number of local restaurants. At 17, he embarked on professional training at the California Culinary Academy. After schooling, Mahin began traveling the world to learn invaluable culinary knowledge first hand. He worked at New York's Nobu and San Francisco's Millennium, Blackhawk Grill and Patrick David's. In 2006, Mahin tested fate when he applied on a whim to the world's top restaurant; the three-star Michelin rated The Fat Duck in Bray, Berkshire, England as a laboratory assistant in Chef Owner Heston Blumenthal's kitchen. Mahin continued on as a stage at Arzak and A Feugo Negro in Spain. In 2007, he headed back to the U.S. to LEYE's acclaimed modern seafood restaurant, L20, working with LEYE Chairman and Founder Richard Melman.
From 2008 to 2011, Mahin was a corporate chef within LEYE working closely with Melman and the other partners to develop innovative ideas and recipes that have been introduced at some of LEYE's most revered restaurants. During this period of time Mahin's passion for bread making and farm to table cuisine inspired him to create Stella Barra Pizzeria. Since opening, he has developed numerous relationships with local farmers and purveyors giving him access to the best produce on the west coast.
In fall 2013 Mahin, along with fellow Lettuce Entertain You partners Chris Meers, RJ, Jerrod and Molly Melman, brought California influenced Summer House Santa Monica and Stella Barra Pizzeria to Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood.
Currently Jeff resides in the west side of Los Angeles. When he's not busy working and creating in the kitchen, he enjoys playing golf, rock climbing and bike riding.
